HENSE rotary actuators for motorcycles
In motorcycle racing, HENSE rotary actuators are successfully integrated as controlled servo-hydraulic axes in a complex control loop.
A rotary actuator is used to adjust the throttle valves of the carburetors, and a second rotary actuator is used to change gears by actuating the shift drum in the transmission.
By evaluating various measured values, the control loop enables a precise interaction of both rotary actuators, which in turn enables the driver to safely perform a smooth gear change via a rocker switch, even under full load and without actively using the clutch.
