21.01.2025Servo-hydraulic Torsion Testing Machines with HENSE Rotary Actuators at the TU Dresden

Two servo-hydraulic torsion testing machines are used at the Professorship for Machine Elements at the TU Dresden for the dynamic testing of material samples, in which the durable HENSE rotary actuators provide the reliable drive units.

Due to the servo-hydraulic principle, any load curves, force- or angle-controlled, are easily possible with frequencies of up to 40 Hz, depending on the sample stiffness. In this way, fatigue tests with several million load cycles can be reliably realized in a reasonable time.

By using HENSE rotary actuators of different sizes and with highly dynamic control valves matched to them, material samples can be tested on two test benches with high control accuracy in different load ranges.

    Test bench “Dr. Dreh“: HENSE rotary actuator type HSH 1 SG DI with M = 200 Nm; f max = 40 Hz; φ max = +/- 60°

    Test bench “Torsten“: HENSE rotary actuator type HSH 2 SG DI with M = 400 Nm; f max = 40 Hz; φ max = +/- 60°

Both rotary actuators are equipped with digital rotary encoders, and pressure accumulators close to the motor reduce harmful vibrations resulting from possible pulsations. The vertical arrangement of the load train, in which the material samples are integrated free of play by means of clamping elements, reduces disruptive transverse forces to a minimum. The effective torque from a torque flange is fed to the control circuit with high precision as a controlled variable.
